Swim Lesson Levels

BEGINNER:

This level is for beginners. No experience is required. Swimmers will learn to:

  • relax in the water,
  • listen to an instructor,
  • bob underwater,
  • blow bubbles face down,
  • float supported front and back,
  • roll over supported,
  • streamline glide,
  • flutter kick, and
  • enter jumping from the side.

Advancement depends upon mastery of a 15 foot front swim (face & eyes in water, arms forward, fast kick) and 15 feet back kick.

INTERMEDIATE:
The level is for swimmers who have passed the Beginner level or who can  swim independently, a 15 foot front swim and a 15 feet back kick. Swimmers  will  learn the basics of:

  • relax in the water,
  • streamline push off the wall & glide (front & back,)
  • independent roll-over (front to back,)
  • freestyle
  • backstroke
  • side breathing
  • retrieving items from underwater,
  • a jumping entry into water over their head.

Advancement depends upon mastery of 12.5 yard crawl swim and 12.5  yard backstroke swim as well as comfort in deeper water.

ADVANCED:
This level  is for swimmers who have passed the Intermediate level or know  freestyle and backstroke well. Swimmers will work on:

  • freestyle w/side-breathing,
  • independent backstroke,
  • the basics of breaststroke kick
  • the basics of dolphin kick,
  • treading water,
  • the flip turn,
  • jumping into deep water
  • compact dive basics

Swimmers will be Sharks swim team ready upon completion of this level.
